📝 6th Form Taster Days

22nd June 2026

Love it - Learn it - Live it - Braeburn Sixth

The journey kicked off on Thursday morning at the Senior School reception, where a great crowd of enthusiastic students registered before heading over to the Sixth Form cafeteria. Over hot tea, snacks, and a few lively icebreaker games, nerves quickly melted away into excitement.

Students then gathered in the Lecture Theatre where our headteacher, Ms. Liz Borwell, delivered a powerful, welcoming speech alongside the senior leadership team. From the academic freedom of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and work experience to elective extra-curricular activities, sports, and prestigious student leadership opportunities, the message was clearly delivered by teachers, senators and the current year 12 students.

Participants had enjoyable, fun, high-energy Sport sessions embodying our philosophy of a healthy mind in a healthy body.

By mid-morning, it was time to dive into the classroom. Students experienced university-style seminar sessions across various option blocks, sampling the incredible depth of our curriculum:

Friday shifted our focus outward and forward. After an early morning grounding session centered on personalised learning development (PLD) and Health & Wellness, students dived into another round of academic choices.

The absolute stand-out moment of ‘Day 2’ was our community service initiative…

Armed with gifts and a shared sense of purpose, our visiting and current students travelled to the Kibera slums. Together, the team spent the mid-morning and early afternoon actively supporting local single-parent families. It was a profound, humbling experience that perfectly illustrated the core values of empathy, social responsibility, and leadership that define a Braeburn student. Seeing our potential sixth formers step up, collaborate, and give back with such genuine care was incredibly inspiring.

The event culminated in an essential joint session for both students and their parents. In the Sixth Form Common Room, Ms. Borwell detailed the exciting academic paths ahead, the shifting expectations of post-IGCSE life, and how Braeburn nurtures every individual to achieve their full potential.

To top it all off, the Sixth Form options evening held in the Dining Hall was buzzing. Parents and students mingled with subject specialists, discussed career paths, and explored choices that will set the foundation for university and beyond.

Thank you to all the staff, current students, and the fantastic numbers of visiting families who made these two days so unforgettable. The future looks incredibly bright, and we cannot wait to welcome our new cohort into the Braeburn Sixth Form family next term.

Community Service Into the Sixth

Impact on the Ground

Today, the Year 12 Sixth Form team stepped out of the classroom and directly into the field for an unforgettable community deployment.

While the planned sustainable pad-making workshop had to be canceled, the team adapted instantly to ensure the day was a massive success. We want to say a massive thank you to the Swahiba Network for partnering with us and guiding our perimeter safely throughout the entire mission.

Working together, our student cohort split into 7 structured groups to achieve our core objectives. We distributed essential care packages directly to vulnerable mamas and shoshos who are widowed and navigating difficult circumstances. Through a maze of homes, we distributed essential goods to specific homes. Each group took charge of delivering critical resources, including maize meal, wheat flour, soap, and tissue rolls, ensuring these families received direct support.

For some of us on the team, this is work we have been doing since childhood, and it was a fulfilling continuation of Braeburn's Community Service mission. For others, this deployment was a massive eye-opener that brought us face-to-face with the harsh realities of informal settlements and slums, notably the largest in Africa, Kibera. Seeing the strength of the community firsthand made all of us feel incredibly grateful for our own circumstances and deeply connected to the purpose of community service and giving back to those less fortunate.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, worked hard in the field, and refused to stay on the sidelines today and helped those vulnerable families in need! As many say, giving to others is the best form of happiness one can get!
