A Historic Double Victory in Athletics!

29th November 2025

What an incredible way to end the athletics term at the IAPS Athletics Competition held this past Saturday at Hillcrest School! In the final week of preparation, the children trained with great commitment, attending after-school sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday before taking a well-earned rest on Thursday and Friday to prepare for the big day. Our focus was on fine-tuning transitions and teamwork in the relay events—an area we knew would be one of our strongest.

The weather could not have been better, and we started the day with outstanding performances. Zita secured a silver medal in the Under 9 Girls 1500m, while Octave delivered a brilliant run to win the boys’ race. These early successes set the tone for the rest of the team, boosting confidence and inspiring everyone to translate their hard work into top-level results.

Throughout the day, our athletes continued to shine—earning podium finishes and collecting vital points even in events where we finished outside the top three. A special mention goes to Gout, who won the U9 High Jump with an impressive 1.16m, just 2cm shy of the competition record of 1.18m.

There was a moment of drama in the girls’ U11 200m when our outstanding sprinter Zimatha mistakenly stopped around 5 metres before the actual finish line due to confusion on the track. Fortunately, the race was rerun—and Zimatha proved her class by winning comfortably once again!

Our strongest performances of the day came in the relays, where teamwork and precision paid off. We achieved podium finishes in every age category:

  • U9 Boys – Silver
  • U9 Girls – Silver
  • U11 Girls – Silver
  • U11 Boys – Bronze
  • U13 Girls – Gold
  • U13 Boys – Silver

Thanks to these consistent performances across the board, we emerged champions in both the boys' and girls' categories—as well as the overall competition! This is a historic achievement, marking the first time we have won both the Braeburn Athletics Competition and the IAPS Athletics Competition in the same year.

What a remarkable group of athletes we have had this season. A huge thank you also goes to our dedicated PE department led by Mr. Owino, and to the volunteer teachers who supported the training sessions. We are incredibly proud of every single athlete for their hard work, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship.
