14th March 2026
The atmosphere at Braeburn was electric on Saturday, February 14th, as the Cross Country team gathered for a truly once-in-a-lifetime Engage talk. The guest of honor was none other than the legendary Marathon Runner, Eliud Kipchoge, who visited to offer our pupils a masterclass in mindset and grit ahead of the demanding cross-country events scheduled for next term. Kipchoge centered his message on a single, powerful pillar: discipline. He emphasised that success is built on a commitment to training, resting, and nutrition, noting that talent only flourishes when supported by these three essentials.
The depth of the session was truly felt during the Q&A, where pupils left parents and teachers in awe of their thoughtful inquiries. When one student asked what keeps him going when he is extremely tired before the finish line, Eliud shared a profound perspective on endurance. He explained that he reminds himself that fatigue is not unique to him and that every other runner is just as tired as he is. With that thought, he simply wills himself to take one more stride, and then another.
The afternoon also provided a surprising spark of inspiration for the adults in attendance. Eliud’s revelation that he only began running between the ages of 16 and 17 served as a powerful reminder to parents that it is truly never too late to start a new journey.
This incredible opportunity was made possible through the combined efforts of Eliud’s team, the Engage team, and one of our dedicated parents, Aude Mounif-Praud. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone involved for providing our pupils with such vital wisdom, and above all, we thank Eliud for inspiring the next generation of runners.
