“A message from the Deputy Head Pastoral"

13th September 2025

As the new Deputy Headteacher Pastoral, I want to begin by saying how warmly I have been welcomed by staff, students, and the few parents I have already had the pleasure of meeting. The energy, ambition and positive attitude of our students is truly infectious, and I am very happy to be back in the Braeburn family, and in Kenya.

We are now three weeks into the new academic year, and I have been so pleased with the way our students have settled back into routines. There is a real sense of purpose around the High School, and many are already setting the tone for a successful year ahead.

Our high expectations for uniform, punctuality and behaviour are central to this. While there is still some way to go with punctuality, I am encouraged by the improvements we are already seeing compared with last year, and I know we can continue building on this momentum.

A special mention must go to our new students: Year 9s and our new Year 12s beginning their Sixth Form journey. Both groups have made an excellent start: our Year 9s are embracing the move into High School, while our Sixth Formers are quickly learning how to make the best use of their independent study periods. So far this term, I’ve also had the pleasure of seeing our Sixth Formers team-build whilst swinging around on the high ropes. On a personal note, I am thoroughly enjoying teaching my new A Level Chemistry classes!

The start of term is exciting, but it can also be a challenging period of adjustment. I want to highlight the excellent work of our school counsellors, who play such an important role in supporting student wellbeing. They are always available, and I would encourage both students and parents to reach out if ever there is a concern. Promoting positive mental health is a priority for us as a school, and we are fortunate to have such a committed team supporting our young people.

It has also been wonderful to see our wider school community in action: auditions for the school production, As You Like It, are complete and intensive rehearsals are now well underway. It promises to be a fantastic show. And on the sporting front, I’m looking forward to seeing our students compete in the netball tournament this Saturday. I have no doubt they will do us proud!

Looking ahead, I am excited about the year to come. We have a number of pastoral priorities on the horizon, including parent workshops on important topics such as digital safety. These will be opportunities to work in partnership with you, as we continue to guide our students towards balance, resilience, and success.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
