Cultural Day, The Braeburn Way

25th March 2023

BHS Cultural Day - 2023

Last Saturday, the highly-anticipated 2023 Cultural Day was a tremendous success that surpassed all expectations. Considering over 50 nationalities were represented we achieved our primary objective, which was to promote cultural diversity and awareness. Promoting diversity is the first step to true inclusion and acceptance. It helps dispel negative stereotypes as well as helps us respect “ways of being” that are not necessarily our own. As Audre Lorde said, “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences”.

Our dedicated performers spent 2 weeks rehearsing for their dances, musical performances, and the fashion show. The fashion show included several themes: cultural, the 70s, and a movie theme. Zhang Wucongzhong and Noora Bashaaib were crowned Mr. and Ms. Braeburn respectively. Alongside the performances, there were 29 stalls which included: jewelry, food, and art.

On behalf of the Sixth Form Cultural Day Committee, we appreciate the students, teachers, and parents that attended the event. We greatly appreciate all the contributions made, regardless of how small they may have seemed. As the African proverb says:

“If you think you are too small to make a difference you haven't spent a night with a mosquito”.
