Anti-Bullying Week 2024 - #ChooseRespect

15th November 2024

At Braeburn, Anti-Bullying Week 2024 was a powerful opportunity to reflect on the importance of kindness, understanding and respect. This year’s theme, #ChooseRespect, inspired our school community to embrace values that strengthen relationships and foster inclusivity.

The week began with a focus on how we demonstrate respect in different ways. From Monday to Thursday, pupils explored four key areas through discussions and activities:

- Through actions – Highlighting the role of thoughtful gestures and responsible behaviour.

- Through words – Understanding the power of positive, affirming language.

- Respect in listening – Learning to be attentive and open-minded.

- Understanding differences – Encouraging empathy and celebrating diversity.

These daily themes were introduced during morning line-ups and revisited in classrooms, nurturing a shared understanding of respect and its impact on our school environment.

The highlight of the week was Odd Socks Day on Friday, 15th November. Pupils and staff embraced their individuality by wearing mismatched socks, celebrating diversity and uniting in the fight against bullying. Throughout the day, all year groups took part in engaging and creative activities designed to reinforce the message of respect and kindness.

Activities included an odd socks dance party, creating friendship chains and painting kindness rocks to spread positivity. Pupils explored the theme of respect further through discussions, assemblies and team activities like 'Building a Culture of Kindness' and shaping our Anti-Bullying Policy. These sessions encouraged pupils to reflect on the importance of their actions and words in creating a supportive, inclusive community.

This year’s Anti-Bullying Week not only emphasised the importance of respect but also strengthened the bonds within our school. Braeburn remains committed to nurturing a safe and inclusive environment where every pupil feels valued and empowered to stand against bullying.
