4th November 2021
Braeburn School through the Art Department participated in the 49th year of the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2021 with the theme ROBOT and artificial intelligence. One of our very own pupils, Benjamin Rwenjeu, (now a Braeburn High School pupil) received an honorable mention. The awards for participants from foreign countries was held at the Czech Embassy and was hosted by the Czech Ambassador; who thanked the teachers and the students who participated in last year’s Lidice competition and encouraged more schools and more participants to participate in the Art Competition. Benji, Bemnet, Trixyna and Jonathan together with Mr. Mutwo and Ms. Kwambai attended this prestigious event.
A bit of background on this art competition. It was established in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice murdered by German Nazis, as well as all other children who have died in wars. Lidice Fine Art exhibition was once a national thing but became an international one in 1973 and since then it has become well known among children and teachers not only in Czech Republic but literally all over the world.
It is incredible how art can talk into the hearts of young people in a positive way. Art can surely turn a bitter and heart breaking experience into a sweet and reconciling one and we are excited to see our pupils be part of something big.
Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to everyone for participating!
