Aztec Day

19th March 2021

To enhance the Year 6 pupils' learning on our topic of ‘Aztecs’, we held a special curriculum enrichment day on Wednesday, 17th March.

The children undertook various activities which included: creating a serpent mosaic, designing Aztec shields, learning about the Aztec number systems, and creating their own stories using Aztec glyphs/codex.

Aztecs were a Mesoamerican people of central Mexico in the 14th, 15th and 16th century. They were a civilization with a rich mythology and cultural heritage. Their capital was Tenochtitlan on the shore of Lake Texcoco - the site of modern-day Mexico city.

The pupils were exposed to important skills of the Aztecs namely: hunting, fishing, farming, art and unique architecture of pyramids, temples and palaces.

Furthermore the knowledge of Aztecs emboldened the pupils to generate sound connection with today’s world and develop an appreciation of diverse cultures around the world.
