Braeburn Senior School recently transformed into a vibrant hub of literary exploration, celebrating the profound impact of reading and writing on the human experience. This year’s Book Week was far from ordinary, blending scientific inquiry with creative flair to inspire the next generation of African storytellers.

The Crown Jewel: Echoes on the Frontline

The definitive highlight of the week was the official launch of Echoes on the Frontline, a poignant anthology featuring a collection of works by both students and teachers. This publication serves as a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing authentic voices, providing a professional platform for the community to share their unique narratives.

Insights from the Masters

The literary atmosphere was further electrified by the presence of acclaimed Kenyan authors Natasha Muhanji and Ciku Kimeria. During a captivating whole-school assembly, the duo shared their journeys in an intimate interview. Their involvement extended deep into the curriculum:

● Writer’s Workshop: Aspiring authors received hands-on mentorship.

â—Ź Year 9 Presentation: A deep dive into the discipline and identity of being a professional writer.

â—Ź Competition Review: The authors personally reviewed entries for the school writing competition, providing invaluable feedback to young wordsmiths.

â—Ź Creativity in Motion

Beyond the page, the school buzzed with interactive displays and events. Students showcased their favorite literary figures in a dazzling Book Character Fashion Show, while a high-stakes Book Quiz tested their library knowledge. Visual representations of the community's reading habits flourished through a "Book Tree" documenting completed titles and "I am Reading" posters featuring teacher recommendations.

The week also embraced the digital age, utilizing insightful YouTube features to explore the science behind reading and how literature physically reshapes our minds. From the scientific to the surreal, Book Week at Gitanga Road proved that stories are not just read; they are lived.

What an incredible week it has been! Our students dived headfirst into the world of books through exciting literacy activities, from lively quizzes, authors engagement to imaginative creative writing sessions. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity, creativity, and a shared love of books. The week reminded us that books are more than just pages. They are gateways to imagination, knowledge and endless possibilities.

Book Week ignited a renewed passion for reading among our students, sparking creativity, curiosity, and confidence in their literacy skills. The author sessions and interactive activities left them inspired to see books not just as stories, but as powerful tools for imagination and lifelong learning.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the English Department for their amazing support throughout the week. The teamwork and dedication they demonstrated were truly admirable and played a vital role in making this celebration such a success.

Until next time, keep turning those pages.

Best wishes,
