On Friday 22nd May, the Braeburn community came together to celebrate World Environment Day through a variety of activities focused on environmental awareness and sustainability. Organised in partnership with Seas4Life and led by the Leadership Programme team — a group of Year 7 pupils aspiring to become next year’s prefects — the event encouraged pupils from Year 1 to Year 8 to reflect on how their everyday actions can help protect the planet. A special awareness talk in the Big Theatre highlighted the growing challenges of climate change, pollution, and habitat destruction, while inspiring pupils to become part of the solution.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in meaningful and creative activities designed to promote environmental responsibility. We made pledges to reduce waste and make better choices for the environment, while Year 6s rehearsed and performed mini drama productions for younger children in Years 1 and 2. Year 8s also helped teach younger year groups about the importance of World Environment Day and the need to care for the world around them. The activities encouraged collaboration, creativity, and a shared commitment to sustainability across the school community.
Teachers’ reflections added further inspiration to the event, praising the enthusiasm and engagement shown by pupils throughout the day. Ms. Jackson commented on how wonderful it was to see everyone participating so passionately, while Mr. Williams reminded us that “we don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” The day was a powerful reminder that even small actions can make a meaningful difference, and it showcased Braeburn’s continued commitment to raising environmentally conscious young people.
