7th November 2024
This International STEM Day (marked internationally on 8th November), Braeburn students dove into the wonders of science by conducting two fascinating experiments that illustrated the magic of chemical reactions. Pupils eagerly participated in creating 'elephant toothpaste', a foamy explosion caused by mixing hydrogen peroxide, yeast and soap, which visually demonstrated how chemicals can react and change in exciting ways. In the second experiment, students created a 'milk rainbow' by adding food colouring and dish soap to milk, showcasing how molecules interact in surprising patterns. These hands-on activities made learning science fun and accessible, igniting students' curiosity about the processes around them.
Pupils also explored what STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) entails and learned about various career paths in these fields, from chemists to engineers and data scientists. Through this activity, our scientists not only gained a deeper understanding of scientific principles but also a glimpse into the exciting and impactful careers they might pursue in STEM fields.
