One look at the sheer joy and triumph on our pupils' faces is confirmation that football is indeed one of the best games on Earth. In the lead up to the start of The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Team PE decided to engage pupils in a Mini Football World Cup from November 15th to 17th, to prepare for the actual men's World Cup that started on November 20th.
What an opportunity to share with pupils the excitement of a World Cup, and to bring to life the excitement of playing for a country! Maybe during the real World Cup, our young sports men and women may have a slight affinity to the teams they played for? However, the true importance of this event was to bring pupils together to celebrate the international nature of sport; to remember the TEAM in Teamwork; and to enjoy celebrating the Braeburn Circles through our sporting spirit, within our community.
There was a great show of stiff competitiveness, team spirit, and celebration on the field, as the various country teams charged to what they hoped would be glorious victory. But as in true competition, there could only be one winner. Congratulations to Serbia that won the cup among Under 9s, Costa Rica for Under 11s and Cameroon for U13s.
