Braeburn Physicists Shine at the 1st Annual Inter-Braeburn Physics Olympiad

22nd June 2026

On Friday 19th June, Year 9 and Year 10 students represented Braeburn Senior School at the first-ever Inter-Braeburn Physics Olympiad, joining peers from across the Braeburn Group of Schools for a morning of fast-paced challenges that tested both knowledge and teamwork.

A Year 10 Perspective — Ipsa Bedi

A highlight for me was the innovation challenge, where I led my group. It was a rewarding experience that helped us apply physics in creative, real-world ways while building problem-solving and leadership skills. Thank you to the organisers and teachers for making this enriching event possible.

A Year 9 Perspective — Prajeet Ghose

The competition began with students from every school split into breakout rooms by year group, before diving straight into a rapid-fire round of exam-style questions, racing not just each other, but the cl

ock. Then came the twist: instead of competing individually, we banded together as one team to pitch innovative ideas in the main call.

My experience wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be an intensely competitive event, and for the first half, it was, but what surprised me was how well everyone collaborated once we moved into the innovation round. Nobody in my group was even from the same school, yet we got along like we'd known each other for years, not two and a half hours. Ideas ranged from sustainable phone cases and cars to multi-use rockets, and one group even pitched a neuro-chip designed to help prevent dementia. Between the passionate presentations and the sharp Q&As that followed, the teamwork was easily my highlight of the day.

Even the rapid-fire round had a twist, the questions weren't just textbook physics, but had real-world relevance, with a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency for entire towns.

Overall, this is an event none of us will forget anytime soon.

Huge congratulations to all our Physics Olympiad participants for representing Braeburn so well, and thank you to the teachers who supported and prepared them for the competition. We look forward to seeing this become an annual highlight!
