Braeburn School Athletics - Hillcrest International School

30th November 2024

This past Friday marked another fantastic outing for Braeburn’s athletics team as our students competed in the highly anticipated Braeburn School Athletics Event (hosted at Hillcrest) with determination and sportsmanship. The atmosphere was electric, and the students performed well, showcasing the spirit of our school.

The day was filled with exciting moments, and our young athletes delivered some exceptional performances. an outstanding individual achievement: Amie Katta, whose hard work and focus paid off as she stormed to victory in the U19 400m race, earning a gold medal! Her performance was a true testament to her talent and resilience on the track this term.

A special congratulations goes to the U15 girls’ team, who secured an impressive second place overall, and the U15 boys’ team, who finished strong in third place overall. Both teams demonstrated incredible teamwork and dedication throughout the competition. As a school we managed to secure 4th place overall.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our athletes, and a big well done to all participants for their effort and commitment. Days like these remind us of the power of sports in bringing out the best in our students.

Braeburn School Athletics 2024 - A Student Perspective…

I would like to reflect on a season that has been as much about growth as it has been about challenges. This year, we worked hard, training through early mornings, the half-term and various afternoon sessions at Kenyatta University, Nyayo Stadium, as well as the Arboretum, in order to push ourselves to improve at every opportunity. Despite these efforts, the results at our track meets didn’t reflect the potential we know this team has. However, as athletes, we know that setbacks are part of the journey. What matters most is how we respond. This season taught us resilience, and the importance of consistency in preparation.

This season was not without its challenges, particularly when it came to logistics. I would like to extend a special thanks to the athletics department for their relentless effort in finding solutions to the difficulties of finding a venue to host our events, and simultaneously create time to ensure their availability and dedication to all our training sessions.Their hard work behind the scenes ensured that we could compete and represent our school, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

While the overall season didn’t meet our goals, there were positives we should celebrate. Our U15 boys showed promising improvement, securing 3rd place demonstrating that the future of Braeburn Athletics is bright. Additionally, the consistency shown across the board, particularly from our U15 girls, has been commendable and a source of motivation for all of us.

To all members of the athletics team, your dedication is not taken for granted and I believe our best performances are still ahead of us! To our coaches: your belief in us and relentless guidance have been invaluable. And to everyone who supported us along the way: your encouragement means the world to us.
