Braeburn Schools Music Festival- Braeburn Garden Estate, 25th Jan 2024
Some of the Year 9 students, Year 10 and Year 12 music students went to Braeburn Garden Estate for the Inaugural Braeburn Schools Music Festival. It was an initiative aimed at bringing the schools in the group together by enhancing collaboration between the staff and students in the Music departments and by extension, the Creative Arts Faculties.
The participants were from Braeburn Gitanga Road, Braeburn Garden Estate, Hillcrest Secondary, Braeside Lavington and Braeside Thika. The programme was diverse and included solo items on various instruments such as piano and saxophone as well as group items such as a small choir, bands, orchestras and ensembles performing a wide variety of music - Western classical music, popular music, jazz and African music.
Our performances included a breathtaking piano solo performance by Darya Burgess 9S who exuded calm control as she played a very technical section in her piece. Dhara Shah 9N also played a solo piece on the piano. The Year 10 class performed a wonderful ensemble performance of Adele's “Set Fire to the Rain” as an ensemble, with Li Shuaizheng on the drum kit, Megumi Hayashi on the piano, Ambar Joshi on the violin, Amie Katta on the electric bass as Nemayian Marima sung her heart out. Ian Nyachoti in Year 12 did an incredible performance of “Hands” by SerpentwithFeet, backed by Harlene Singh, Vanessa Muchiri and Chesang Kandie.
Some of the feedback from the students was that it was wonderful to get a chance to go to BGE and perform and also see what other Music students were doing, and it was evident that they enjoyed themselves immensely and are hopeful for future opportunities.
