27th September 2024
This year, the ISSK (Kenya Scouts) Camporee was held at St. Andrew's, Turi in Molo from the 26th to the 28th of September. Braeburn proudly sent a team of eight scouts to participate in the event, alongside scouts from 11 other international schools. It was a weekend full of adventure, learning, and teamwork.
One of our scouts, Kaizer, shares his experience from the first day of the camp:
Friday at Turi

Today we had lots of fun! The whole day was packed with activities. We started early, waking up at 6 a.m. and enjoying a delicious breakfast at 7. There were baked beans, boiled eggs, waffles, pancakes, toast, and fresh fruit.
After breakfast, we split into groups from 1 to 10 to raise the school flags. I was in Group 1, and our first activity was canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Next, we tried our hand at crafts, choosing between drawing or painting. By 10 a.m., we moved on to survival skills, where we built huts out of sticks, rope, and leaves as a team of five.
After a quick snack of samosas and fruit, we regrouped for archery, each of us taking aim with a bow and arrow. Before lunch, we learned how to tie a reef knot during the pioneering session. Lunch was another highlight — pizza and fries!
In the afternoon, we played water polo, where my team won 8-7, even though it started raining. We headed back to the campsite, showered, played games, and had fun to wrap up an amazing day at Turi.
This experience was a fantastic opportunity for our scouts to build skills, bond with peers, and enjoy the great outdoors. We look forward to more exciting adventures in the future!
