14th November 2025
Friday, 14th November was an inspiring day for Braeburn School as pupils from Years 5 to 8 took part in two major STEAM events across Nairobi. Both opportunities challenged our learners to think innovatively, work collaboratively, and apply real-world problem-solving skills.
At Hillcrest, a team of four Year 5 and four Year 6 pupils participated in the STEAM Challenge, where they were tasked with designing a sustainable lunar base for eight astronauts within a budget of 30 million Kenyan Shillings. Their thoughtful planning, creativity, and teamwork earned them the “Most Sustainable Colony” award, highlighting their impressive approach to sustainability and space design.
At The Banda, Year 7 and 8 pupils joined a collaborative STEAM project alongside other IAPS schools. Acting as engineers, they worked on developing solutions for a remote community whose bridge had been destroyed by flooding. The challenge taught them valuable lessons about planning, budgeting, and adapting their ideas when faced with real engineering constraints.
Both events offered meaningful experiences that strengthened pupils’ critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. Braeburn is proud of all participants for their enthusiasm, resilience, and the innovative spirit they displayed throughout the day.
