Braeburn’s Commitment to Reduce its Carbon Footprint

8th May 2023

As a school and member of the local and global community, Braeburn is committed to limiting its carbon footprint to as low as possible levels. To that end, we work with our waste management partners, Taka Taka Solutions, who in turn work with MyClimate Foundation to ensure that the considerable amounts of waste generated by a school of Braeburn’s size is recycled instead of being dumped into the land.

In doing so, we are able to do our part in reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that build up in the environment, trapping heat that inevitably causes global warming. To put this into numerical terms, in the month of April 2023, approximately 8,802kg of waste was collected at Braeburn, with all of it being recycled except for 3.5% residual waste that could not be recycled. This translates into 17,431kg of greenhouse gas emissions saved in one month alone.

We encourage our pupils to consistently sort and recycle waste by placing differentiated waste bins for paper, organic and plastic waste across the school. We hope this will build a recycling culture within them, which they will carry on at home and in their future lives.
