The Year 4 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting and enriching trip to the Apollo Centre, where language learning came alive beyond the classroom. As part of their Swahili studies, pupils had the opportunity to practise naming a variety of everyday foods in Swahili, confidently identifying items such as nyanya (tomato), viazi ulaya (Irish potatoes), ‘chai’ (tea) and kahawa (coffee), among many others. This hands-on experience helped deepen their understanding and appreciation of the language, as they connected vocabulary to real-life objects in a meaningful and memorable way.
Beyond language learning, the day was filled with exploration and discovery. Pupils immersed themselves in the Communications Museum, where they examined fascinating devices from the past and learned how communication has evolved over time. In the science lab, they took part in exciting experiments that challenged their thinking and sparked curiosity. The adventure continued outdoors, as pupils explored the nearby forest, navigated their way through a maze, and even enjoyed the unique experience of riding a camel. It was a truly memorable trip that combined learning, fun, and adventure, leaving pupils inspired and eager to learn more.
