Community service trip to Tabasamu shoe distribution

21st June 2025

As part of Sixth Form taster days, we took the incoming students on a trip to Kibera (the largest slum in Africa) to introduce them to the community service projects in which Braeburn School is involved. We were joined by Tabasamu, a charitable organization that supports vulnerable communities, especially children and widowed mothers. Together, we helped distribute shoes to those in need.

During the visit, we had the chance to go to the homes of some of the widowed mothers. It was a powerful experience, seeing the conditions they live in and listening to their stories really gave us a deeper understanding of the challenges they face. We also brought donations such as detergents and basic food ingredients, which we gave directly to the mothers to help support their daily needs.

Afterwards, we spent time with the local children and gave out snacks. Despite the tough circumstances, their joy and energy were truly inspiring. The trip was not only meaningful for the incoming students but also a reminder for all of us of the importance of compassion, empathy, and giving back to the community.
