Marking Spanish National Day

The Spanish day at Braeburn has been greatly appreciated by our school community. In celebrating the day(12th October), the students had the opportunity to engage in different activities geared towards understanding of the Spanish culture and language

We had students making posters of different aspects of what they have learnt in the target language as well as listening to various Spanish songs.

This week we were delighted to celebrate World Spanish Language Day in Braeburn. This day carries immense importance as it highlights the significance of the Spanish language in our diverse global community.

Celebrating World Spanish Language Day is a recognition of the Spanish language’s power to bridge cultures, foster unity and enrich our understanding of the Spanish-speaking world. It allows us to embrace linguistic diversity and encourages us to learn and appreciate this widely spoken language.

This day is celebrated on the 12th of October to coincide with Spain’s National Day. It commemorates Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas in 1492. It’s a day of cultural celebration, where the Spanish language and its profound impact on the world are celebrated with pride and joy.

With Spanish in our school curriculum, our hope is to nurture cultural competence, enhance communication skills, promote inclusivity and cultivate global citizenship. Learning Spanish not only equips our students with valuable language skills but also opens doors to a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives.

World Spanish Language Day is a celebration of cultural richness, unity and the incredible ability of language to connect people from different corners of the world. We embraced this day with enthusiasm and dedication to fostering linguistic diversity and cultural understanding within our school and beyond.

¡Gracias a todos y hasta pronto! (Thank you all and see you soon!)

I personally like Spanish because I have always loved foreign languages and learning about their connection to culture. It's so fascinating to see just how different languages can be.

Spanish today is extremely useful in today’s world because it is the second widely spoken language second to English and it is also the easiest to learn if you already speak English, so I recommend you atleast give it a shot.
