DIGITAL WELL BEING

5th October 2020

Maddy Jackson, Pastoral Deputy Headteacher

The term 'screen time' has very rapidly become a part of our everyday language and it can be easy to only focus on the negative side of excessive use of their devices; poor sleep patterns, access to harmful content, obesity, development of low self-esteem. However, there is more to it than that. The research suggests what a person is doing on their device is much more important to consider than how much time; use of the internet for research, staying connected with friends around the world through social media, developing hobbies and passions, using apps to help with mindfulness are just some of the positives. To find out more about how you can support your teen to get the right balance have a look at this video from internetmatters.org.

There is also a link in the descriptor to their website where you can find more information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzIg0eHJD4k
