Drama Team Dazzles @ IAPS Drama Competition

25th September 2025

Having fared exceptionally well in recent years (four consecutive 1st places), the pressure was on for our talented team of thespians at this year’s IAPS Drama competition. The format is simple: a word is drawn from a hat, and each team has just one hour to create a piece of devised theatre. This year, the word was Challenge.

Our pupils responded with a daring and original piece set in a surreal underworld, where an adult and a child were trapped under unknown circumstances. Through flashbacks, the adult came to see the child’s joyful life on earth, and in a final act of sacrifice, chose to save the child over herself.

As is often the case, judging was extremely difficult — made even more so when both original judges withdrew at the last minute and two replacements were found at the eleventh hour. Yet none of this fazed our pupils. Nor did performing first (arguably the toughest slot). They delivered a sublime performance.

In the end, the results placed us in a very respectable 2nd. Considering the many “challenges” faced on the day, I was incredibly proud of their achievement. It is perhaps a testament to their own high standards that the students initially felt disappointed. However, after some reflection (and a well-deserved ice cream), they embraced the idea that we are something special in Drama — and letting another school “borrow” the trophy this year will only fuel our determination for next time.

Well done to the entire IAPS Drama Team!
