EAMUN 2024

26th February 2024

The 42nd annual EAMUN conference was held at the United Nations Office in Nairobi from Tuesday to Friday last week. Simulating the activities of the United Nations, our students made up the delegations of three countries; Mauritania, Bangladesh and America. Our students demonstrated their abilities in public speaking, debating, lobbying and finding practical solutions in various committees including Ecology, Economics and Politics, the Security Council, the Human Rights committee, International court of justice (ICJ), Special Summit and the Historical decisions committee (HDC).

The conference was a culmination of a long process that aimed to build teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, research, public speaking, debating, and other skills. Our students did a fantastic job throughout the week and a special mention must go to Amie Katta who was recognised as the Best Respondent in the International Court of Justice. Below is a reflection from one of our students who worked as part of the Press Corp team at the event.

We started off our EAMUN conference on the 12th February, bright and early to ensure we arrived at the UN building in good time. Throughout the conference, the dedication and passion displayed by the delegates in the Ecology, Economics and Politics, Security Council, Human Rights committee, International court of justice (ICJ) and Historical decisions committee (HDC) were truly remarkable. The conference gave us a valuable opportunity to engage in amazing debates, collaborate with talented individuals, as well as getting a chance to forge new connections and make friends. Through the participation in committee sessions and the exchange of ideas, we not only advanced our debate and writing skills but also gained an incredible amount of new knowledge and ideas. Reflecting on our time at the UN, we can proudly say that we have grown, not only as individuals but as a school.
