In recent years of deforestation it was estimated that 4.89 million acres were cleared during 2022 which is a 21 percent increase of 2021. This was seen as the worst year for deforestation since 2004 according to MAAP who analyse satellite readings from global forest watch. Deforestation can happen anywhere, in a blink of an eye. Sadly it’s even on the increase in countries such as Brazil, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo (DCR). Cattle ranching has been identified as the main cause for 80 percent of deforestation in Brazil contributing to 14 percent of  global annual deforestation. Today the most amount of deforestation is happening in tropical rainforests added by extensive road construction. Agriculture results for 70-80 percent of tropical deforestation due to temporary loss of forest prior to regrowth. Deforestation can increase climate change and destroys the habitat of animal and birds,  it can also cause floods and food shortages.  We can stop deforestation by planting more trees and joining clubs and communities that support environmental protection such as our community service club we have in our school.
