Exciting Science Week Activities for Years 5 to 8

20th March 2025

Science Week at Braeburn was filled with hands-on experiments and exciting discoveries. Year 5 pupils explored chemical reactions by creating the 'tingly hand' experiment using baking soda and vinegar and investigated density through a warm-cold water experiment. Year 6 pupils delved into the world of fossils, making their own samples with plaster-of-Paris.

Years 7 and 8 engaged in creative science projects, including making art using acids and alkalis on turmeric-treated paper and comparing the densities of household fluids like honey, oil, and water. They also explored separation techniques through decantation.

To inspire future scientists, our scientists reviewed unexpected STEM careers, including photography, seamstressing, scuba diving, and even professional 'smellers.' Science Week was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to apply scientific principles in engaging ways, fostering a love for discovery and innovation.
