11th June 2024
On Tuesday 11th June, our Year 2 pupils embarked on a fascinating journey to explore different religions firsthand. They visited three significant places of worship in our community, each offering a unique glimpse into different faith traditions.
Their journey began at the Nairobi Synagogue, where they were warmly welcomed by the Rabbi. The pupils had the privilege of learning about Jewish customs, beliefs and practices. The Rabbi patiently answered their curious questions, providing insights into the significance of the Torah and the synagogue itself.
Next on their itinerary was a visit to the Mosque, where they met the Imam. The pupils were captivated by the Imam’s explanation of Islamic teachings, rituals and the importance of prayer in the life of a Muslim. They observed the serene atmosphere of the prayer hall and learned about the pillars of Islam.
The final leg of their journey brought them to the Church, where they were greeted by the Parish Priest. Here, the pupils discovered the symbolism of Christian traditions, such as the significance of the cross and the sacraments. The priest engaged them in discussions about the teachings of Jesus and the role of the church in Christian worship.
Throughout the day, our students demonstrated exceptional curiosity and respect for each faith they encountered. They asked thoughtful questions and listened attentively to the insights shared by the Rabbi, Imam and the Priest. It was a day filled with learning, understanding and appreciation for the diversity of beliefs in our community.
