Our journey into leadership did not start in a boardroom, it started first with an early morning trip from Nairobi to Naro Moru crisp, and then a crisp 10:00 AM breeze at the Batian’s View Experiential Learning Camp in Naro Moru. What followed was a weekend that tested our grit, warmed our hearts, and turned a group of students into a unified Senatorial team.
The adventure kicked off with a crash course in survival and humility. Armed with fresh tea and newfound determination, we traded our school bags for camping gear. We learned that pitching a tent is a lot like leadership; it requires a solid foundation, clear communication, and a bit of muscle.
By 2:00 PM, we began a four-hour trek through the lush forests at the base of Mount Kenya. The terrain was tough, but the atmosphere was tougher. The trail was not just a path; it was a space for high spirits and deep conversations that made the steep climbs feel like a breeze.
Camp life was where the "Senator Spirit" truly shone. We did not just survive the wilderness; we embraced it. From fetching water at the Naro Moru River to the organised chaos of group dinner prep, every task was a lesson in collective effort.
After decamping the next morning, we headed back to base camp to reward our hard work with some adrenaline. Whether we were conquering the legendary "screamer" swing or soaring through the air on the zipline, the laughter and occasional shrieks solidified a bond that only shared adventure can create.
To cap off our journey, we traded our forest meals for the lovely dinner at the Naro Moru River Lodge. We are incredibly grateful to our Heads of Sixth Form and the Senior Leadership Team for treating us to a sumptuous celebratory dinner.
As we transitioned from the rugged forest floor to the luxury of warm beds of the Batian’s View bandas, the evening became a beautiful space for reflection. We spent hours around the bonfire laughing and reminiscing about our "survival" moments, while looking forward to the tenure ahead. We left Naro Moru with more than just memories; we left with a shared vision, a few sore muscles, and a profound appreciation for one another.
This trip was the perfect blend of challenge and connection. We are coming back not just as Senators, but as a unified team ready to lead.
