What a rollercoaster of emotions the team—and our loyal fans—experienced this past weekend at the Under 13, 13-a-side rugby tournament hosted at Hillcrest.
We were drawn into a tough pool, beginning with Kenton. It was a tightly contested match, but we ultimately went down 14–0. Our second game saw us come alive against Braeside Lavington, where we put in a commanding performance to win 21–7.
Next up was St. Andrew's Turi. This time, we were relentless—taking control early and finishing strong to win 28–0 with a bonus point. Little did we know that this would turn out to be our 'silver bullet.'
In our final group match against St. Christopher's, we looked set to qualify—until the final minute, when they edged it 14–7. At that point, many of us thought all was lost and that we would not make it into the semi-finals. However, our earlier bonus points swung the balance in our favour, proving just how crucial every effort and every score can be.
In the semi-final, we faced Pembroke and an intense battle followed. The Braeburn boys showed real resilience, courage, and character—even after losing some key players during the match. Despite fighting hard throughout, we narrowly lost 12–7.
This tournament was truly an eye-opener and a valuable lesson in grit, determination, and belief—qualities that will stand us in good stead. We can’t wait for what’s next on the calendar: the Ndume 7s on 20th June at Pembroke.
