28th January 2025
On Tuesday, 28th January, a group of fourteen Year 7 and 8 students, along with five from Year 9, embarked on a weeklong Middle School Model United Nations (MSMUN) conference at UNON-Gigiri. This marked the culmination of months of preparation, including the selection of delegates and the drafting of resolutions on global issues. Representing various countries, students engaged in UN committees such as Ecology, Health, Human Rights, and Technology, as well as specialized committees like the Security Council and Historical Decisions. Through debate and collaboration, they tackled global conflicts and emerging challenges, applying diplomacy to find solutions.
Leading up to the event, students participated in a mock debate last October and underwent training for student officer roles. Felicia, Ushoshee, Kaniska, Arth, Rameen, and Nia closely missed out on Junior Chair, Secretariat, and Press Corps positions but demonstrated commendable effort. All delegates became well-versed in parliamentary procedure, ensuring they could confidently contribute to discussions in their respective committees.
During the conference, the impeccably dressed delegates engaged in passionate debates, presenting well-researched arguments with confidence and eloquence. Their efforts paid off, as Braeburn secured three major awards—Felicia as Best Delegate Runner-Up (Health Committee), Robert as Best Speaker Runner-Up (Health Committee), and Zohid as Best Speaker (Historical Decisions Committee). The entire team should be proud of their record-breaking performance at MSMUN 2025. Congratulations to Robert, Aarva, Dhairya, Eva, Alayna, Zakariah, Zohid, Prajeet, Gianna, Ushoshee, Yonatan, Maria, Felicia, and Yula for a stellar conference!
