The Masai word Kijabe means ‘Place of the winds’ and it was definitely true when we got to the top. After a drizzly start in Old Kijabe town, it was a long, muddy and, in places, strenuous climb to the peak of Kijabe Hill. The weather improved throughout the day getting sunnier and warmer as we got higher and higher. After walking through farmland and forest out onto the grasslands and bush near the peak we broke for a well-deserved lunch break. Rising out of the rift valley to an altitude of 2688m above sea level the views from the top took in Lake Naivasha, Mt Longonot, Mt Suswa and even all the way over the escarpment to the Ngong Hills. The descent was even steeper than the climb taking its toll on different leg muscles. A lot of camaraderie and teamwork were evident as students and staff supported each other throughout. Well done everyone.
