8th December 2023
On Saturday 2nd December, we embarked on the longest hike yet, starting with some steep and rocky sections as you hike up the forested slopes of this extinct volcano before following the track all the way to the summit of 2145m. At a total of 18km it was a long, hot slog up Mt Kilimambogo, but well worth the effort for the panoramic views along the way. Located in Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, near Thika, this is the first time for Braeburn to take a trip here. Although we didn't see any buffaloes (Kilimambogo means buffalo mountain in Swahili), we can definitely attest that it is a 'big mountain' (the meaning of Ol Donyo Sabuk in Masai).
The next hike is on the 13th January to Mt Longonot. If you are planning on coming to Mt Kenya in February, this will be great preparation.
