IAPS Netball Tournament - Under 11s

16th June 2022

The U11 A and B teams have had a great season, week-in, week-out growing in skill, knowledge and understanding of netball. They have had strong performances and grown together really well as teams.

They were all excited for the challenge that lay ahead at the IAPS Tournament. Everyone was up for the day and the girls knew that focus was the key for the day's matches.

The Braeburn Under 11B team play several fast paced matches against The Banda, Kenton College, Peponi House and Pembroke House. The girls put in commendable effort in all their games, making it to the semi finals. Well done to the whole team for a brilliant attitude and playing with such fun and commitment.

Our Under 11As played their first match with great drive and determination, proving that they were on task. A convincing win against BGE B Team, and everyone was settled into the day. The next game that followed was against St Andrew's B Team, another success and the girls were in the zone! The last group game was the toughest, against Peponi A Team, but nothing was stopping the girls now! Braeburn topped the group, moving into the quarter finals, where they played Pembroke. The most challenging game yet, and some great competition. The girls won in a closely fought battle, 4-3. The semi finals were next, and the girls' competitors were Hillcrest. Another great game, but Braeburn really were on top form, and managed to secure a 9-4 win and a place in the final.

The last game of the day was an 'All Braeburn' final, BGE vs BGR! This was the game at the start of the season that was unable to be played due to a public holiday, so neither team had come across each other so far. BGE were a strong, fast team, and Braeburn struggled to keep up with them during the first half. Half time came around, and BGR were 0-5 down. A quick team talk, and the girls were feeling a little more positive. The game was tense, particularly in the last 5 minutes, as BGR fought with so much courage and grit to come back to within 2 goals of BGE. As the final whistle blew, BGE were on top. It was to be 2nd place for BGR, a great achievement playing against strong competition.

The girls should feel extremely proud of themselves for what they achieved, a fantastic effort and some really great netball on show throughout. Well done, girls. Superb effort!
