At Braeburn High School, we believe learning never stops. Lifelong learning is not only essential for our students but also for us as teachers. Each Wednesday after school, our staff gather to share best practice, exchange ideas, and hone our craft as educators.
This week’s professional development session focused on the power of the image. Images can spark questions, provoke reactions, and generate rich discussion. Mr Michael Wright, Head of Faculty for Humanities and History Teacher, guided us through innovative ways of using images as catalysts for learning.
Working with prompts such as What can you see? What can you infer? What questions do you have? We discovered how images open multiple lenses of interpretation and invite students to think more deeply. We also explored the speak and scribble method—an effective strategy for encouraging quick, inclusive discussion and reflection in the classroom.
It was a timely reminder that images can ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and stimulate meaningful debate. Most importantly, it was another opportunity for us to come together as a team, learning from one another and pushing ourselves to keep improving. That commitment to growth is what defines teaching at Braeburn High School.
Our thanks go to Mr Wright for leading such an insightful and energising session.
