It’s the Bug-Tastic Year 3s!

30th March 2023

Adorable bugs and fish have invaded Year 3’s Design and Technology lessons! Over the second half of the term, pupils had been honing their creativity and sewing skills in the form of textile bugs. They began by envisioning what they wanted their bugs to look like, and then put their designs on paper. After that, it was onto using fine motor skills to thread needles and utilise suitable stitches to create the shape of their bug. Ask a Year 3 pupil what a running or over stitch is, they will be able to show or tell you.

The skill of sewing and stuffing their bugs was found to be a range of challenges as we all know bugs can be tricky. But in true Braeburn spirit, the Year 3s persevered and worked together to help each other out. The final phase involved adding embellishments to their textile bugs using a variety of googly eyes, sequins, pipe cleaners and extra fabric. Imaginations skittered wild with this bug-tastic project!
