It is easy, too easy, to forget at times that the freedom we enjoy and our way of life is only possible because brave women and men have put their lives on the line, too often giving them or incurring life changing injuries, so that we can experience and enjoy this way of life. This is why it is so important to stop and spend a moment remembering their sacrifice and suffering given, not only since the world wars of the early twentieth century, but all through until today. This we do through Remembrance Day, of which the poppy is an emblem. We remember the war dead with poppies. The money we raise through the Royal British Legion (Kenya branch) goes to the Askari Foundation which looks after Kenya veterans who fought for the British preceding independence.
'They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary then nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We shall remember them.'
We are incredibly and always grateful to those who dedicate themselves to keeping us safe and secure.
