Making Progress in the Early Years Foundation Stage

27th January 2023

After FS2 listened to the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendakthe, Vera created her own interpretation of a ‘wild thing’. She drew an outline on paper, then cut out the outline using a pair of scissors, showing very good small motor muscles development.

Using a variety of one-handed tools like scissors competently, safely and confidently is one of the physical development Early Learning Goals. This skill needs good fine motor control as well as core strength which are both very important for other essential skills like handwriting. Well done to Vera and our many FS2 pupils who have already achieved this goal.
