As we continue our Mental Health Awareness Month campaign centered around the theme of Community, this week we’re focusing on ways to actively engage and become part of a community. Getting involved in your community can be challenging. To help, here are some easy ways to build social connections and feel more connected to those around you.
Keep it enjoyable
A great way to build connections is by taking part in activities you love. Consider joining a club or group that aligns with your interests—whether it’s sports, music, reading, or gaming. Chances are, you’ll meet others who share your passions.
Get Outdoors
Being outdoors encourages physical activity, which can boost both your physical and mental well-being. Nature also offers its own calming benefits. Plus, outdoor spaces create opportunities for casual social interactions. Try going for walks, joining a running or cycling group, or helping out in a community garden to build stronger connections.
Connect with people who share your interests
Seek out groups that align with your hobbies, beliefs, faith, or values—it’s often easier to spark conversations with those who think like you. At the same time, don’t shy away from engaging with people who are different. Building diverse connections can lead to valuable learning and personal growth.
Practice kindness
