Music Genre Week

Music as we know it has thirty-three different styles and more if we dig deeper. The Music Genres week was aimed at opening up the minds of our young musicians and to help them understand that there is more to music than just what they usually listen to.
Most of our musicians will listen to current and trending music, to the likes of Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Kodaline and others. This week was an eye opener for many pupils who listened to Rock n’ Roll for the first time!
It was interesting to note that what appeared to be the most popular genre was pop. I was pleased to find that jazz appeared popular too; opera was the least favourite, which poses the question – do we listen to it enough?.
