11th October 2025
Hello everyone! It's been a busy half term for the school and the department has been quite engaged with various activities, ranging from engaging class sessions to rehearsals for various events- both in school, such as in year group and whole school assemblies, as well as out of school.
Wednesday 1st October was International Music Day, and on 30th September our BTEC L2 and BTEC L3 classes took the opportunity to perform in Braeside School, Lavington to commemorate this day. This is an important part of their learning as they are encouraged to prepare and perform in front of a live audience. Both classes have shown such positivity and enthusiasm in undertaking such opportunities and using them for reflection and to improve their performance skills overall. The Y10s, also known as The Monarchs, performed Mean Girls (Kateye), while the Y12 class performed Stand by Me (Ben E. King)
After a successful debut in term 3, we are pleased to inform you that we hosted a Sound Bytes Session, which is a series of monthly concerts aimed at encouraging our students to showcase their performing skills and talents. This was also held to commemorate International Music Day, where people come together to perform and to share their music practice, promoting a culture of performing and collaboration.
Our performers included: Anthony Ndirangu (11H) on the piano playing a piece titled Moderato, Zohid Muhammad (9N) on the guitar with a beautiful rendition of Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King. The Y12 BTEC L3 Music class, consisting of Tereza Murachia, Chengzi Ouyang and featuring Shuaizheng Li on the drums, successfully performed a set of 2 songs - Stand by Me and You are the Reason - for the first time, back to back. This was after their inspiring debut at our whole school assembly on 25th September. The Y10 BTEC L2 Music class, (Natalie Law, Hayley-Nadine Meho, Amanda Ashwin and Fiona Liu, featuring Safiye Rateb on the bass) whose stage name is the Monarchs, performed Kateye's Mean Girls, and wrapping up the performances was an exhilarating original piano composition by Dylan Rawanduzy (11H).
We are happy to inform you that 4 students (Darya Burgess, Hany Akot, Sirletta Sirleaf and Fiona Liu) registered and competed in the preliminaries of the Young Vocalists Competition at Peponi School on 4th and 5th October 2025. This provides an opportunity for them to showcase their strong performance skills, and benchmark with other students from various schools and institutions.
They chose and performed wonderful renditions of pieces of various styles and genres- from Musical numbers such as I love Betsy (Honeymoon in Vegas), Isn’t it a trial? (Alice by Heart), Burn (Hamilton) to RnB numbers such as Take a Bow (Rihanna) and even Jazz standards such as Misty.
We wish them the very best as they wait for the results sometime this week.
We as the department are proud of our students and their willingness to take part in various music activities and showcase their skills and we continue to encourage more students to take part in these activities. Some future events to look out for include:
- Sound Bytes Session V2 (Nov 2025)
- Cultural Day - 25th Oct 2025
- Songs of the Season (Christmas Concert) - 3rd Dec 2025
- Christmas Fayre (last week of term 1).
