Simon Welch - Physical Education

This academic year I have joined Braeburn Secondary School as Deputy Headteacher in charge of academics.I didn’t have far to travel to take up this role, as I have been working in Braeburn Primary School since 2019, first as a Head of Year and then an Assistant Headteacher.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science and Physical Education from Liverpool John Moores University. I also have a PGCert in Teaching and a PGCert in Coaching and Mentoring in Education. I have a passion for coaching and am currently working towards a Diploma in Life Coaching as well as a further qualification in school leadership.

My experience working in schools dates back to 2002 when I had my first education role as an Assistant Housemaster in a boarding school in New Zealand. Since then I have worked in a variety of settings in the UK and abroad including a mix of Primary and Secondary Schools. Throughout my teaching career I have taught PE, Games and Mathematics.

The whole Braeburn Secondary School community has been incredibly welcoming and supportive during the first few weeks of term. I am very excited to be working with motivated teachers and pupils. I look forward to working with the whole Braeburn School community as we strive to be the very best we can be.

Patricia John - Business studies and BTec

I am an enthusiastic business educator with a passion for all things related to business. With over 15 years of diverse teaching experience, specialising in business studies and BTEC business Levels 2 and 3. My journey has been marked by remarkable BTEC Business results and awards in the School Enterprise Challenge, where I've had the privilege of guiding students toward entrepreneurial success and nurturing their growth as future business leaders.

Joining Braeburn School at the start of this academic year has been marked by profoundly positive experiences. The commitment to holistic well-being is truly commendable. Moreover, I've been warmly welcomed, making it a joy to be part of such a vibrant and inclusive community. The boundless enthusiasm and dedication of both students and colleagues are truly inspiring. I'm excited to be a part of this dynamic environment and look forward to contributing to its continued success.

Nzakwa Kaloki - Physical Education and history

I am thrilled to rejoin the Braeburn School community, this time as a dedicated educator specialising in physical education and history. Returning to Braeburn School feels like an exhilarating homecoming, as the familiar hallways and friendly faces evoke cherished memories of my own student days. Now, in my role as a teacher, I am eager to share my passion for education and life with the bright and eager students of Braeburn.

It's evident that Braeburn's enduring commitment to education and its vibrant sports culture have stood the test of time. The sense of community and dedication to education that I remember from my student years remains vibrant, and I am enthusiastic about contributing to the continued growth and success of this exceptional school.

As I step into my role as a teacher and coach, I am reminded of the profound words of Gandhi, "Be the change you want to see in the world." My aim extends beyond the mere imparting of knowledge; I aspire to instill essential values and cultivate a deep appreciation for both sports and history within our students. In doing so, I hope to not only educate but also nurture future leaders and inspire history-makers.

I am genuinely excited to embark on this journey at Braeburn School and eagerly anticipate collaborating with the entire school community to foster a nurturing and empowering educational environment. Together, we will continue to shape the future with knowledge, values, and a commitment to excellence.

Daniel Juma - Cover, geography and business studies

I am a geography and business studies teacher. Teaching is not just hard work; it's also about putting your heart into it. This phrase reflects my passion for teaching. My initial experiences at Braeburn have been really special.

The friendly and warm welcome from my colleagues has made my transition into this cover teacher role very smooth. What makes me even happier is how friendly and enthusiastic the students are.

I'm truly delighted to be a part of this community. I look forward to each new day, excited about the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.

Nicholas Obonyo - Teacher of mathematics and physics

It has been a mix of thrill and excitement since I joined the great Braeburn school family as a new member of staff of this highly-rated institution. The warm reception by both the members of staff and the students is simply unmatched.

I joined the institution with a vast experience in teaching mathematics and physics in different high schools spanning over a period of 12 years. With this mix of experiences from different institutions, I look forward to working together with the ever-supportive Braeburn staff in nurturing the young souls who are under our care with utmost dedication.

Outside my daily work schedule, I’m very enthusiastic about sports and music. I watch a lot of football, play table tennis and listen to rock music. I look forward to greater weeks ahead.

Elvina Obuya - Personalised learning and English

Even though my initial teacher training was on French and English literature, I realised that I had a passion for working with students with special education learning needs. In effect, I have spent the last 14 years of my teaching career working with EAL students as well as those with various learning needs.

Like many of my colleagues, I draw my inspiration in seeing my learners’ progress both academically and non-academically. Joining Braeburn as a Head of Personalised Learning/ English teacher is providing me with an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of my students as well as grow professionally.

Settling in has not been difficult as I have joined from another Braeburn school that shares the same vision and ethos with Braeburn School. I look forward to many successful years ahead.
