Ngong Forest Trip

30th September 2023

We embarked on our first hiking club trip of the year to Ngong Forest on Saturday 22nd September. To our surprise, our intention of following the 10km trail was thwarted due to a lack of available rangers, so we decided to do the 5km loop twice. It was a beautiful walk in the cool of the morning full of conversation and teamwork. We were even lucky enough to see some interesting wildlife.

Ngong Forest is home to a pair of crowned eagles who are currently nesting in a very tall tree right next to the path. Spotting this near-threatened species described as the most powerful raptor in Africa was a privilege. We also watched as a yet-to-be-identified species of black snake slither its way through the undergrowth next to the path. And then there was the siafu!

We're hoping to have even more people join us on our next trip to Karura Forest on Saturday 7th October for a 15km hike.
