In the Art Department this week, Year 11 students have been deeply engaged in developing their personal coursework themes ahead of the half-term break. Each student is pursuing an individual line of inquiry, exploring ideas ranging from identity and memory to transformation and the natural world.
During a recent live drawing session, the classroom was filled with quiet focus as students observed and recorded real objects placed before them. One student chose to explore the theme of “Decay,” studying the intricate form of a large bone. Using a simple ball pen, he captured the fragile details of light, tone, and texture, turning a classroom observation into a powerful visual reflection on time and transformation.
His drawing went beyond a study of structure, it became an expressive dialogue between observation and imagination, showing how even the most ordinary materials can express deep ideas.
As the first half of term draws to a close, Year 11 artists continue refining their ideas and developing their practical skills, ready to extend their creative investigations after the break.
