Scouts Take on the Cycling Badge at Rowallan National Scout Camp

13th February 2026

On Friday, 13th February, eleven Scouts travelled to Rowallan National Scout Camp to work towards an important milestone in their Scouting journey — the Cycling Badge. This special trip, organised every three years, challenges Scouts to demonstrate skill, resilience and teamwork in a supportive outdoor setting.

The day began with essential training in bike safety and maintenance, trail safety and basic first aid before moving on to the practical cycling component. In the serene surroundings of the campsite, Scouts learnt how to repair a punctured inner tube using a patch and glue, and how to pump tyres correctly — valuable life skills that build confidence and independence.

After lunch came the highlight of the day: the trail ride. Following a thorough safety briefing, Scouts were flagged off with great excitement. Three required additional support with pedalling and balance, but through perseverance and encouragement, each succeeded — a truly uplifting moment. The bus ride home was filled with laughter as Scouts sang their favourite marching chant together, rounding off a memorable day of courage, determination and camaraderie.
