Senator Leadership Training
Our newly appointed Senators started their journey to becoming our school leaders last Friday. They travelled to Brackenhurst to take part in a full day of leadership training. Surrounded by tea plantations and refreshing greenery, each of the students made Braeburn proud as they worked together and supported each other.
Blue Sky curated an excellent programme that challenged the students with practical activities and reflective discussions around leadership. The morning started with a variety of team building tasks that relied heavily on communication skills and mutual respect, whilst asking them to consider what it means to serve as a leader.
A lot of the conversation centred around their visions for leading the school and the support systems they wished to put in place. They also discussed stronger links with the Primary School and taking a more prominent role in event planning and working with the Y9 Influencers.
In the afternoon each of them showed real courage and teamwork as they took on the high ropes! After their safety briefing and clipping in harnesses and helmets they climbed up to complete the “islands in the sky” part of the high ropes course.
The senators worked in pairs up on the ropes, assisting each other and working out how to swing the platforms back and forth to each other to get across. But they were also harnessed to 4 senators down on the ground who were their literal support. If they fell, it was their peers holding them up and getting them safely back down. This was a visual representation of what we expect from them next academic year and it really built a sense of trust in the team.
After a reflective and productive discussion to end the day we were back on the bus (asleep). Mr. Njagi and I were extremely proud of each and every one of them and we are very excited to work with them next year to help build a positive and engaging Sixth Form that builds intellectual curiosity.
