Small Steps, Steady Progress

10th January 2026

Students who develop consistent study habits can improve their exam performance by up to 30%. Small, steady efforts really do make a big difference - this term offers the perfect opportunity to build those habits.

This term marks an important stage in the academic journey for many of our students. Key milestones include trial examinations for Year 11 and Year 13, subject option choices for Year 9, and Sixth Form planning for Year 11.

Supporting Students Through Trial Exams (Year 11 & Year 13)

For our Year 11 and Year 13 families, trial exams are an essential checkpoint. They help students understand their progress, identify strengths, and focus on areas that need improvement before final examinations.

Please note that there will be no study leave during this period. Instead, students will benefit from structured school days with access to dedicated study spaces, teacher guidance, and tailored support. Your encouragement at home by helping to maintain routines and a positive mindset plays a vital role in keeping students motivated and confident.

Subject Selection Guidance (Year 9 and Year 11)

For our Year 9 and Year 11 families, this term marks an important decision-making stage as students begin to consider future subject pathways. To support students in making informed choices, we have organised a range of information sessions and activities designed to help them understand how subject options align with their interests, strengths, and future aspirations. These include:

  • Year 9 CAT4 assessments
  • Information talks with our group careers adviser
  • Careers Day events
  • Subject Options Parent Teacher Consultation meetings
  • Subject option handbooks
  • Subject taster lessons

We look forward to working closely with you to support students through these important decisions. All sessions have been scheduled during this term, so please keep an eye on key dates and mark your calendars accordingly.

We strongly encourage families to continue these conversations at home and to support students in making thoughtful, well-informed choices that reflect their individual strengths and future goals.

Encourage Consistency at Home
You can make a meaningful difference by:

  • Creating a calm, organised study space free from distractions
  • Encouraging regular breaks and a balanced routine to support wellbeing
  • Keeping communication open, listening, encouraging, and celebrating effort as well as achievement

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” — Robert Collier

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we look forward to a productive and successful term for all our students.
