Victorious, was the single best way to describe the final hockey tournament of the season. With two Braeburn teams playing, the competition and drive to win was palpable. A wide variety of schools were present and the teams played several, intense, 8 minute matches. The B team made it to the quarter finals, while the A team progressed to a passionate semi-final against BGE.
A tie in this match meant the winners would be determined by penalties. Exceptional skill and motivation resulted in the team proceeding to the finals against Turi. In this match, the team played beautifully, with a dynamic and chemistry that could be felt from the sidelines.
Excited and highly deserving, the team walked out with a trophy as proof of their success, champions of the tournament! The running of the event, thanks to Braeburn staff and students, was outstanding. Needless to say, this U19 Girls Tournament provided a phenomenal close to a brilliant hockey season.
The Girls ended up 4th in our group so they had to play Rusinga who were first in the other group. We scored a beautiful goal to go up 1-0. All we had to do was hold on for 2 minutes but they equalised from sloppy defending. Penalties and the girls stepped up. Pavi and Gaia scored, Mariam saved both.
On to the semis, Aga Khan were too strong and we lost 1-0 in the final. Big appreciation for Yohanna for playing in goal for most of the day. Mariam who played every minute of 1 hour and 50 minutes of football. Gaia and Pavi who had MVPs in two games. Aphelele who scored her first goal of the season.
The U19 Boys Football squad got the opportunity to pull on the new strip. A tough game but we got the deserved win 3-1 victory over our local rivals, Rusinga. Highlights on the match to follow.
