BGR 7-Aside Boys Rugby Tournament

The much-anticipated Braeburn 7-a-side rugby tournament took place on Saturday, 14th June, showcasing outstanding talent and strong competition. The Braeburn U15 boys arrived focused and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead, determined to make their mark in this competitive tournament.

Pool Matches:

Braeburn was drawn in a pool alongside Rusinga and Nairobi Academy. Their first game was set against Nairobi Academy, who unfortunately were unable to attend, resulting in a walkover for Braeburn.

The team’s first real test came against their neighbors, Rusinga. Braeburn started strong, with Kuya Nabaala opening the scoring, putting the team ahead 7-0 early in the match. The boys maintained pressure throughout, dominating play and finishing with a convincing 33-12 victory over Rusinga. This result secured Braeburn’s progression to the semifinals.

Semifinals – Braeburn vs. Hillcrest:
The semifinal clash was a local derby against Hillcrest, a match marked by intense action from the kickoff. Braeburn’s early pressure forced Hillcrest into a mistake, which Braeburn capitalized on with a center-post try and successful conversion, taking a 7-0 lead. The boys continued to press and scored two more unanswered tries, extending the lead to a commanding 21-0 at halftime.

Hillcrest showed resilience in the second half, scoring three unconverted tries and narrowing the scoreline to 21-17. Despite Hillcrest’s fightback, Braeburn held on for a hard-fought victory, booking their place in the final.

Final – Braeburn vs. Brookhouse Karen:
The final saw Braeburn face Brookhouse Karen, a team that came out firing with high momentum. Brookhouse scored three consecutive tries to establish a strong 24-0 lead early in the game. However, Braeburn refused to give up and mounted an impressive comeback. Tries from Spencer, Migi, and Kuya brought the score to a nail-biting 24-19.

Despite the spirited rally, time ran out before Braeburn could complete the turnaround, and the boys were narrowly defeated by Brookhouse Karen in a thrilling final.

The Braeburn U15 boys' rugby team demonstrated excellent skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament. Their journey from pool stages to the finals, overcoming tough opponents and displaying resilience in the face of adversity, reflects the promising future of this young team. The narrow loss in the final only fuels their hunger for success in future competitions.
