30th September 2024
On Saturday, our football team took part in a tournament held at Rosslyn Academy. We played three intense games, and although the final results were not in our favour, we put up a good fight and grew stronger as a team.
Game 1: A Hard-Fought Match Against West Nairobi
Our first game was against West Nairobi, and it was very competitive. Both teams had several chances to score, and unfortunately we lost 2-1. We played with determination and kept pushing until the end. Despite the result, we showed great teamwork and the ability to create chances.
Game 2: Facing St. Christopher’s
In the second match, we played against St. Christopher’s. We controlled the ball well and worked hard to break their defence. However, they took advantage of their chances, and we lost 2-0. Even with the defeat, our team kept its spirit high, and we stayed focused on improving.
Game 3: A Draw Against Woodcreek
Our final match was against Woodcreek, and it was a close game. Both teams defended strongly, and neither side could score, resulting in a 0-0 draw. We were proud of our defence and ability to keep possession of the ball throughout the match.
Looking Ahead
After the tournament, we gathered as a team to reflect on how we can improve. We agreed that we need to work on finishing our chances and staying calm under pressure. The tournament was a learning experience, and we are determined to come back stronger.
Thank you to everyone who supported us! We are excited about our next challenge and are confident that our best performances are ahead of us.

U15 B Boys friendly Football vs BGE @ BGE
This was a great opportunity to trial some players as time narrows down to the KAISSO final in some weeks time. The first half did not at all go well with BGR struggling to keep shape and defend well against BGE. The score line of 7-0 was just not good enough. After strategising at half time and with some well needed changes the boys had regained their focus and started playing well asking some questions of BGE. An early goal scored by Abraham Gathu put some confidence in the team. They did well to hold out right up until the last few minutes of the game where BGE managed to capitalise on a mistake and score a goal. Final score BGE 8 - 1 BGR.

Tuesday 24th September BGR v NIS
One of the better performances from BGR against NIS. NIS were a strong and physical team but despite that the BGR team were able to play tactically and keep good possession of the ball. The first half was strong in favour of BGR and it was now about taking our opportunities presented on goal. NIS were disciplined in position and held out strong. In the second half NIS came out with a bit more energy particularly making use of the wing play. Our boys were still in the game and creating more opportunities in the 2nd half. It was a game of back to back action but the two late goals conceded unfortunately left us still awaiting our first win of the season outside of a tournament.

Wednesday 25th September BGR v Peoponi
It was not a great result in the cricket with Peponi fielding a well experienced team much to their credit. There were a few highlights however with some good fielding from BGR as well as batting opportunities. A special mention to Carmen Smith who was fantastic with her batting scoring the most runs for our team as well as scoring a wicket. The team is making steps in the right direction!

Braeburn Gitanga’s U15 second Netball Team Shows Unwavering Determination
In a challenging match against Braeburn Garden Estate, our U15 netball team put up a valiant effort despite a 19-4 defeat. From the first whistle, it was clear our opponents were strong, but our girls never let their spirits falter.
The defensive team worked tirelessly to block shots, while our attackers kept pushing forward, showing resilience with every pass and shot. Even as the score widened, our players communicated well, adapted, and gave their all right until the final whistle.
Although the scoreboard didn’t reflect our best hopes, the game highlighted the strength of our teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. Every player left the court with heads held high, ready to learn from this experience and come back stronger next time.
Keep your spirits up, BGR! We’re proud of the fight you brought to the court.

U19 Boys Football vs NIS @BGR
The boys were focused and ready from the get go. We dominated possession with precision passes and movement but could not penetrate NIs defence. After 18 minutes of dominance a lapse in our defence led to the first NIS shot on goal which they converted. We regrouped and rallied back to equalise through a magnificent shot by William. Final score 1-1

The Braeburn Sports Festival was fantastic as always. Our students represented well and competed in all activities ranging from athletics, to swimming and even cross-fit. It was a tough weekend physically for all but it was so impressive seeing the resilience and effort from the students. It was also a great time to bond with fellow students as well as those from the other Braeburn schools. A special mention to Lotte, Mahmood and Yassin who were part of the winning team for the festival. Well done to all of our Braeburn students and we look forward to the festival next year!

U15 Cricket vs Peponi @ Peponi
Despite the final score being unfavourable, the match against Peponi was a memorable one. The atmosphere was electric as the players took to the field, their determination evident in their every move. The spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie was abundant. The match was exciting with cheers from the sidelines, and lessons learnt. It was a true testament of resilience and never giving up spirit. Keep your head up boys!

U19 Girls Netball Tournament @ Hillcrest
In true Braeburn fashion, the Under 19 girls took to the field full of energy as they reported for the annual U19 Hillcrest Netball Tournament. It was truly an inspirational experience, as the team dominated the pool stage matches to finish first. As the journey progressed through the quarter-finals, the girls showed great zeal and grit; successfully qualifying for the semis. The semi-finals were a matchup between experience and grace on the one hand, and youth and agility on the other. Ultimately, BGR was in the finals versus Hillcrest in the final matchup. Despite the sweltering heat, our girls put up a lovely show, only losing to the gold medalists in the second half. Congratulations on bringing home the silver, ladies! You are absolute stars and we look forward to greater experiences and more wins ahead.

ISK Athletic @ ISK
We fielded a much younger squad due to clash in tournaments. Nevertheless, there were outstanding individual performances from a few athletes, namely Migi, Amie, Kaylah, Nerry and Alfred, whose efforts deserve special recognition.
Migi secured victory in his 100m heat with a new personal best of 11.5 seconds, placing 3rd overall. Amie delivered a commendable performance in the girls’ 100m, finishing in 13.6 seconds and narrowly missing the gold medal. She also reached the podium in the 200m, finishing 2nd with a time of 30.85 seconds. Kaylah finished 2nd in his 200m heat, crossing the line in 27.35 seconds. Nerry earned a silver medal in the girls' long jump with a leap of 4.18 metres. Alfred performed admirably in the 100m, competing against older athletes and securing 4th place with a time of 13.02 seconds.
Overall, the team's strength appears to be in sprint events, as our middle-distance performances were below expectations. This highlights the need for more endurance and speed endurance training sessions.
Despite this, we are on the right track for future success.
