Steady Pace

13th March 2026

Is it just us, or does it feel like the backpacks got ten pounds heavier this week?

We’ve reached this far, and if we’re being honest, this is often the toughest stretch of the term. The early-term excitement has long since evaporated, the end-of-term holidays feel just out of reach, and "burnout" starts to show up in the form of morning grumbles or extra-long naps after school.

We’re seeing it in the hallways—and we imagine you might be seeing it at the dinner table, too. Students have been working hard for two months straight. Their "social batteries" are low, and their academic "CPU" is running hot with final projects and assessments.

If your student seems a little more sensitive, a little more tired, or even a bit more defiant this week, take a deep breath. It’s likely not a lack of discipline—it’s a lack of energy. They are simply running on fumes.

Helpful Suggestions

  • Lower the Pressure Valve: Sometimes, the best thing a parent can do in Week 9 is give "permission to rest." If a chore doesn't get done or a practice is missed so they can catch up on sleep, the world won't end.
  • Focus on Connection, Not Correction: When students come home exhausted, try to lead with: "I’m glad you’re home," rather than "Do you have much homework?" Giving them 20 minutes of "decompress time" before talking about school can prevent a lot of evening friction.
  • The "Finish Line" Countdown: Remind them and yourself that there are only a few school days left. Breaking it down into a visual countdown can make the remaining mountain look like a molehill.

A Quick Reminder for You, Too

You’re doing a great job. Navigating the "end-of-term slump" requires a lot of emotional labor from parents. Remember to give yourself some grace, too. If dinner is cereal tonight because everyone is too tired to cook, consider it a strategic survival win!

Our Door is Open: If you’ve noticed a significant shift in your child’s mood or if they’re feeling overwhelmed by the upcoming finals, please reach out to us. We’re here to help them cross that finish line feeling capable, not crushed.
